We come into this world as little beings full of potential, and from the moment we are born our unconscious mind is taking in everything around us … teaching us, shaping us, helping us to figure out what it means to be ‘human’ and what our place is within our families, our communities, and the world at large.
We learn, over time, what’s acceptable and what’s not. What’s desirable as a personality trait, and what’s not …. And all along the way we push down, split off, reject, deny, and disown, little pieces of ourselves.
We do this because we fear judgement. We fear punishment, rejection, separation – ultimately, we fear being unloved. And this is only natural in so many ways because once upon a time when we were tribal beings, being ‘kicked out’ or ‘not accepted’ surely meant death.
Humans needed the protection and security of the tribe to survive. We still do. Human connection and interaction are vital for our wellbeing.
So, we think that if we hide these traits, or if we bury them down deep enough, they’ll just disappear!
But guess what? They don’t. In fact, they play out all day, every day in your life – you project them on others! You’re just not aware of it, because these are ‘unconscious’ acts.
The purpose of Shadow work is to find and re-own all those parts of yourself that you have rejected and deemed unlovable in order to achieve integration and wholeness.

Our emotions can become a source of strength, rather than a source of internal conflict, or conflict with others.

The stories we tell ourselves are a product of many things, including but not limited to, our upbringing, environment, and social conditioning. Unpacking who we think we are – the image we have of ourselves, provides a valuable insight into our subconscious mind – where our fears, desires and ambitions live.
